Over 130 participants at Euro Diagnostica Symposium

On 17-18 Sept 2012, the Euro Diagnostica International Autoimmunity Symposium gathered over 130 participants in Malmö, Sweden.

The Euro Diagnostica International Autoimmunity Symposium brought together clinicians, lab managers and lab personnel to exchange and share their experiences and results from recent clinical and scientific aspects of four main autoimmune diseases: Rheumatoid Arthritis, SLE,  Vasculitis and Immunoneurological diseases as well as one of the most developing fields in autoimmunity: Complement deficiencies. The event took place in the heart of Malmö, Sweden in a unique atmosphere provided by modern conference facilities in the 16th century St Gertrud venue.

During the first day, September 17, the presentations from renowned scientists Prof. Mårten Segelmark, Prof. Andrew Reese, Prof. Thomas Hellmark, Prof. Berne Ferry and Prof. Jörgen Wieslander provided the platform for in depth discussions and interactions about the challenges encountered and the solutions adopted in Vasculitis. In the second session, Complement deficiencies diagnose and treatment overview and case studies were described by prestigious speakers: Prof. Tom Eirik Mollnes, Prof. Michael Kirschfink, Prof. Peter Gared and Prof. Anna Bloom.  

The second day, Sept 18, started with a highly appreciated Rheumatoid Arthritis session with presentations by Prof. Lars Klareskog, Prof. Tom Huizinga, Prof. Thomas Skogh and Prof. Ger Pruijn. All speakers focused on cutting-edge clinical research and results on Rheumatoid Arthritis and SLE. The event ended with the Neurology session that included one of the most prominent names, Professor Angela Vincent, who gave an outstanding presentation about new developments and future challenges for diseases of the CNS. The neurology session also provided an insight in paraneoplastic disease diagnostics and GAD antibody associated diseases.

The symposium received excellent feedback from all the participants in regards to speakers, presentations, agenda, topics and organization. Several participants from different countries mentioned that the symposium opened doors for future collaboration at regional and international levels.
