Dye-Binding assay

The principle of a dye-binding assay is to utilize the interaction between a dye and a target molecule such as proteins.

Often the characteristics of the dye shift such as its colour when it chemically interacts with the target molecule. The bound dye is separated from the background and colourimetrically/spectrofotometrically determined. The development of a specific colour is proportional to the amount of the target molecules with which the dye has bound to. One such example is the Bradford Protein Assay employing Coomassie Brilliant Blue as dye.
