iLite® hCG Assay Ready Cells

Add to my product list

iLite® hCG Assay Ready Cells are human HEK293 cells (ATCC# CRL1573) which have been genetically engineered and optimized to be responsive to human chronic gonadoptroption (hCG), resulting in a proportional expression of Firefly Luciferase.

Normalization of cell counts, and serum matrix effects is obtained by a second reporter gene, a Renilla Luciferase reporter gene construct, under control of a constitutive promotor.

The iLite® hCG Assay Ready Cells can be used for the quantification of hCG activity, or neutralizing antibody response against hCG in test samples, including human serum.

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the placenta after a fertilized ovum has adhered to the wall of the uterus. HCG interacts with the Lutropin-choriogonadotropic hormone receptor (LHCGR) of the ovary and stimulates the perpetuation of the corpus luteum during the beginning of pregnancy. Because of its similarity to Lutropin, hCG can also be used clinically to induce ovulation in the ovaries as part of a fertility treatment (1). It is offered as a drug under several brand names ex. Novarel, Pregnyl or Ovidrel. It is often part of Reproductive healthcare or Women’s Healthcare programs. Furthermore, hCG can be used as a tumor marker as its β subunit is secreted by certain types of cancer cells, hCG is involved in cellular differentiation/proliferation and, hCG can induce apoptosis (2).
